This vintage Sakimaru Takobiki was made around 1960 - 1970. The curved tip is sharpened seamlessly in conjuncture to the blade road (Kireha).  Morihei kept this for a long time as sample for future blacksmithing.

Although the steel was not disclosed, our informed prediction for the core steel White carbon steel. The way that that buffalo horn ferrule tapers towards the neck of the knife is a hallmark of that time period.

A Sakimaru Takobiki is simliar to a Takobiki, however the main difference is the tip shape ("Kissaki", meaning tip and "maru" meaning curved). It is a traditional Japanese octopus slicing blade that is single-sided/beveled and is recognized for it's very flat profile. These slicers may not be as versatile as its double-sided cousin, Sujihiki, but when it comes to pure slicing tasks of boneless protein (not just fish), a well-sharpened Sakimaru Takobiki is unmatched in performance. It is a great addition for any cooks looking to prepare traditional Japanese style dishes.

Please make sure your single-bevel knife orientation matches your hand orientation.
