Leather strop is our favourite way to hone the edge of a knife. 

When used properly, (click here for a demo video) a leather strop is an invaluable tool for day-to-day maintenance that does not damage a blade and hones the edge more accurately than steel honing rods. It works on any types of edges (razors, single bevels, double bevels, Western knives, Japanese knives etc) so it actually delivers incredible value. 

One caveat, if the knife is too dull or very thick, a bare leather strop is not very effective; in such case, sharpen it on stones instead.
