Beautiful Wood Pattern Lacquerware
Yamanaka Shikki was started near Yamanaka hot spring area in Ishikawa for making
lacquerware. The special characteristic of Yamanaka Shikki is to see the beautiful wood pattern by the way the wood is cut parallel to the ground. When Urushi lacquer is used, the Urushi strengthens the wood and acts as an insulator for hot foods as well as protecting the wood. This process makes it possible for you to enjoy Urushi products for many years.
All Parts Of The Tree
Shirasagimokkou is the Yamanaka Shikki company has used Japanese wood for the 3 generations straight. In these years, the part of the wood which is knot or darker color can not be used to make same quality products and is thrown away. This company Shirasagimokkou values this type of the natural wood and makes beautiful wood products from it. Part of their sales are donated to sustainable re-forestation in Japan!
