Konosuke is one of the most exciting Japanese knife companies to watch out for their appetite to do things differently from the norm. The company is well regarded for its incredible attention to detail and performance when it comes to its products. If you are a lover of beautifully-made functional tools that have a unique design philosophy, join the fandom (and the waitlist...). We at Tosho are extremely proud to be their partners, and look forward to the next shipment.

The Kaiju line is Konosuke's newest release that has been in development for nearly 3 years. Still carrying the 'Fujiyama' name, it features a few but very important distinctions from the regular FM line.

1. The Kaiju blades are heavier and taller, making the cutting experience more 'fall-through' feeling. This is partially thanks to the excellently executed convex-ing of the area above the cutting edge, allowing it to perform well without being too brittle.

2. The Kaiju line features a natural stone finish that is easier to follow up on a stone than the standard FM line, which is a big plus in long term maintenance. This type of natural stone finish is not meant to be extremely fine, so there will be minor abrasion marks left on the soft steel. Also, it features more contrast between the hard and the soft steel that adds different aesthetic nuances.

3. The Kaiju line has no low-spot, making it much less time consuming to maintain the blade's performance over time even for a fairly inexperienced sharpener. This is all thanks to the final polisher's painstaking handwork done after the main Fujiyama sharpener, Myojin Naohito, completes the initial sharpening. The polisher recommends this stone as a part of future maintenance for its ease of usage.

4. Lastly, it comes with a small piece of polishing finger stone that is recommended for restoring original finishes and removing patina. (This might change in the later batches though..)

We recommend this blade for experienced natural stone users for polishing, Japanese knife collectors & enthusiasts, and working professionals with in-depth knowledge of carbon steel blade maintenance.

*Each Kaiju blade takes upto 6hrs+ just on the final polishing process with only one craftsman able to execute this crucial work, so supply is very litmited. We are excited to receive more blades in the next shipment, so if you missed out on the 1st run, please send us an email so we can notify you prior to the next release.
