Made from applying Kakishibu varnish (derived from tannins from unripened and fermented persimmon) on Japanese paper, spread over the ribs made of bamboo, these traditional temperature gauge is an awesome tool for hot-and-fast charcoal grilling (K-bbq, yakiniku/yakitori etc).
The protecting layers of varnish prevents burning of the paper from the charcoal sparks, and the flexible bamboo ribs have just enough bend to produce maximum airflow is needed.
